Hello dear reader –

I’m Callie Gardner, a poet and critic based in Glasgow, Scotland. I started these letters because I found that a lot of writing about the kind of poetry I like was either confined to 500-word reviews, or inaccessible behind the paywalls of academic journals. In both cases, I felt like the criticism wasn’t living up to the poetry.

I started this series as a way to explore new ways of writing about the writing that means the most to me, to open it up for people without leaving behind any of its weirdness and complexity. You can think of them as a series of essays or experiments, but I try to think of them as letters, like an email I would write to my friends and poetry comrades, which I hope will be you.

You can find me on twitter and instagram @calyxpo, and links to my other work at calyxpo.wordpress.com/about.

Thanks for reading!
